To practice and promote responsible environments for the captive & wild ‘Ōpae‘ulas' balanced ecosystems and resources; to educate and perpetuate proper care with sustainable & breed-able environments; to replenish as many existing anchialine ponds; and to use every creative means to carry out those objectives.

OH MY OPAE is a Division of Colours of Aloha, LLC and is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance. Equally, is our responsibility to educate the public on respecting and helping preserve Hawai‘i's own endemic ‘Ōpae‘ula and their depleting natural habitats. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs.
As a result, through over 10 years of education, experience and compassion, we have developed a responsible, sustainable and breed-able Microcosm (Mini-Ecosystem environment) enjoyed in homes and offices. Our proven successes with our balanced Microcosm has resulted in multiplying captive ‘Ōpae‘ula's by 800+%. We have also been blessed with returning customers and referrals.

‘Ōpae‘ula (Halocaridina Rubra - commonly known as Opae ula) could possibly be the
"First Hawaiian"
and inhabitant of the Hawaiian Islands.
After the volcanoes and their streaming lava slowed down their glorious creation, came the cooling construction of the Opaeula's new home. No where else in this world will you find these red and fascinating creatures. Truly endemic to Hawaii and remarkably amazing, these tiny red shrimps will bring endless therapeutic enjoyment. Their natural environment is mainly in anchialine ponds (see Product, Custom and Info), which have been largely depleted by buildings, invasive animals and plants.
We at OH MY OPAE, treasure these Opae‘ula and try to make it our responsibility to ensure that they are properly used in a sustainable environment which will benefit our pleasures and their continued existence.
I N T R O D U C I N G . . .
"MICROCOSMIC PET"
NASA's interest in studing these fascinating crustacean and their ability to survive and reproduce in an enclosed "Biosphere", sent them into Outer Space on the Space Shuttle and are being studied on the ISS (International Space Station). Later, they shared these fascinating creatures with the public. Unfortunately, others have tried to sell Opae ula in square plastic containers or other jars with ornamental decoration as their environment and irresponsibly just profitiing from the novel idea with no concern for their sustainability or breed-able architecture. This careless capitalism only shortens their normal life span of 15-20 years (individually) to 1-2 years.
